Montana Security Guard Licensure Practice Exam 2026 - Free Security Guard Licensure Practice Questions and Study Guide

When encountering unauthorized entry, the appropriate action for a security guard is to secure the area and report the incident to law enforcement. This approach prioritizes safety and prevention of further escalation.

Securing the area means ensuring that the unauthorized individual cannot access additional sensitive locations or put others at risk. This involves taking measures to prevent further intrusion while maintaining a safe distance from the individual. By securing the scene, the security guard helps to protect people, property, and any valuable evidence that may be needed later.

Reporting the incident to law enforcement is essential because they have the authority and training to handle criminal activities effectively. Security guards are not law enforcement officers and may not be equipped to deal with potentially dangerous situations. By alerting the authorities, the security guard ensures the situation is managed by professionals who can take appropriate legal action.

In contrast, ignoring the situation undermines the security sergeant's role, allowing potential risks to escalate without proper intervention. Attempting to confront the intruder poses significant dangers, as it may lead to confrontation that could escalate into violence. Alerting management only does not sufficiently address the immediate threat or involve the necessary law enforcement response, which is crucial for ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
